was a humorous yet apt remark that highlighted the fact that RIMPLER COSMETICS was reaching the limits of its warehouse capacity. It had become clear that not all available resources were being used efficiently. This led to consideration of a new facility to better utilize the limited warehouse capacity and meet growing demands. To optimize warehouse space utilization and transition from manual to fully automated order picking, the company relied on the expertise of Christoph Kuntz, a consultant at ProLog, and subsequently chose the AutoStore™ warehouse and order fulfillment system. RIMPLER COSMETICS was impressed by AutoStore™ due to its scalability and flexible, modular design. The biggest challenge during implementation was integrating the system with Comarch ERP Enterprise, which initially appeared to be a mammoth project in terms of scope and cost. In its search for a suitable software solution that would connect the ERP system to AutoStore™ and thus enable the automated picking of small parts stored there, the cosmetics manufacturer chose engomo GmbH—the developer of the low-code digitalization platform of the same name—as its partner.

RIMPLER COSMETICS was looking for a solution to speed up the delivery of its goods, organize its chaotic warehouse, and make optimal use of warehouse space. This solution was to build on the existing ERP system while also addressing the challenge of integrating AutoStore™. The goal was to provide warehouse management and order-picking staff with a fast, user-friendly, and seamlessly integrated app for operating the AutoStore™. engomo’s low-code approach, which enables rapid integration with the existing Comarch ERP Enterprise system, immediately won over Patrick Rimpler, Managing Director of RIMPLER COSMETICS. With engomo, he found the ideal solution to tackle the challenges of integrating the ERP system, shipping software, data management, and AutoStore™.

Over the course of a 14-day project, the ERP system, shipping software, and AutoStore™ were fully integrated. At the port, the AutoStore™ system retrieves picking orders from the existing ERP system via engomo as middleware and delivers the goods to be picked to the employees. The retrieved goods are verified via a scan, and label printing is triggered immediately afterward through the integration with the shipping software. The conversion of XML files between the systems and engomo occurs without delay, ensuring a seamless process. After confirmation by the employees, engomo reports the completed orders back to both the ERP system and AutoStore™.

A key component of this integration was the four touchscreen terminals, which were configured specifically for the company’s needs using the engomo app. These terminals serve as an interface between the various systems and significantly simplify navigation and control of the AutoStore™ software. The front end is designed to be user-friendly and provides employees with the relevant information about the picking order as well as the quantity to be picked. Before these processes were implemented, tasks were handled manually, without prior integration with AutoStore™. Thanks to engomo, order processing, as well as putaway and retrieval in the AutoStore™ system, are now more efficient, faster, and order-based. The user-friendly and rapid integration led to significant efficiency gains in the picking process at RIMPLER COSMETICS.

For order picking in the pallet warehouse, the company relies on a mobile solution based on engomo. As a high-performance application running on Zebra scanners, it significantly speeds up processes here as well and ensures a high level of acceptance among end users. The mobile app allows employees at various warehouse locations to access important data and, in particular, facilitates the re-shelving, put-away, and removal of items in the pallet warehouse. This innovative solution has proven to be extremely practical, especially for warehouse employees who are not exclusively stationed at the AutoStore but must operate flexibly throughout the entire warehouse.

By implementing engomo, RIMPLER COSMETICS has achieved significant added value. The ability to deliver products more efficiently and ensure seamless order picking with AutoStore™ has significantly improved operational processes. Thanks to engomo’s seamless integration, no significant difficulties were encountered during project implementation. Only minor adjustments were required during configuration, and the go-live went smoothly. Particularly noteworthy is the high level of employee acceptance of the mobile app, which leads to more effective use and a smoother workflow. The error rate in the picking process has been significantly reduced, leading to greater accuracy and efficiency in order fulfillment. Confidence within the company is so strong that employees are already considering how to implement additional improvements. This demonstrates the team’s high level of commitment and motivation to continuously seek out opportunities for optimization and actively implement them. Overall, the integration of engomo has led to a noticeable increase in efficiency, accuracy, and employee satisfaction at RIMPLER COSMETICS, which strengthens the company’s competitiveness and enables long-term success.

In the next step, RIMPLER COSMETICS plans to expand the solution currently in use and implement additional applications based on engomo, such as for order picking in the raw materials warehouse, the digitization of work orders in production, and logistics planning.
