Client Overview:

Logo KADI

What began in 1951 as a potato flake factory is today one of Switzerland’s best-known manufacturers of chilled and frozen products: KADI AG in Langenthal. Behind a portfolio of over 270 products—ranging from crispy French fries and rösti to gnocchi and Asian spring rolls, all supplied to the foodservice sector and available in retail for home use—lies a clear credo: quality is no accident, but the result of time-tested recipes, carefully cultivated regional ingredients, and the use of state-of-the-art technology. To consistently uphold this commitment to quality in the future, KADI relies on the low-code platform engomo—the key to the continuous digitalization and optimization of processes and workflows in production and warehousing.

Cross-process solution for production, warehousing, and intralogistics

For KADI, a custom solution for potato quality inspections at goods receipt marked the start of a comprehensive digitization of paper-based processes. Working with the company’s external IT service provider and utilizing the engomo platform, they developed additional apps for warehousing, logistics, and production step by step. Employees now manage all workflows—previously reliant on paper lists and manual data entry—using custom, integrated apps; these cover everything from put-away and stock transfers to inventory management, as well as setup and replenishment for production lines. Today, KADI uses the engomo platform in-house to flexibly expand and adapt existing solutions independently, and to implement further tailored solutions for a wide range of use cases across the company. To replace its previous mobile data entry (MDE) system, KADI configured a logistics app based on engomo that optimally maps warehouse processes while allowing for custom, flexible adjustments to current workflows at any time.

On the production floor, employees can see in real time which manufacturing orders are pending and what is needed next. Material requirements are calculated automatically—based on the needs specified in the production orders—and displayed in the logistics app. A warehouse request is then generated to initiate the transfer of goods. To replenish production lines, logistics staff use the app to access production orders stored in the ERP system (KADI Comarch ERP Enterprise), ensuring the lines are optimally stocked with the required batch-tracked raw materials. Using touch terminals and tablets mounted at the lines, employees record production quantities, document scrap, and perform quality checks—such as inspecting for invisible contaminants or potential equipment defects. The inspection criteria are derived from the ERP system, where they can be dynamically adjusted and expanded. The custom-configured engomo solution also provides optimal support during packaging, preventing process errors through scan validation: employees use mobile scanners to link the batch-tracked packaging specified in the print job with the production order. The result: complete traceability—seamlessly tracked down to the very last crate.

Quality that counts: Implementation of a tasting app

KADI’s commitment to rigorous quality management and process optimization extends across every area of the company. Every morning at exactly nine o'clock, a panel of experts from various departments gathers for a tasting session—a final quality control step that complements laboratory testing before production proceeds. What once began with pen and paper is now handled via a custom "Degu-App" (short for *DegustationsAnwendung* or "Tasting Application"): inspection tasks are created in the ERP system and assigned to testers by the Quality Assurance manager. Evaluations are based on predefined criteria specific to the product type, such as appearance, texture, aroma, and taste. Testers deliver a final verdict on the batch by selecting "in," "just-in," or "out," supplementing their choice with comments or photos. Before the final report is generated, the application uses a defined calculation logic to verify that all evaluations have been submitted based on the number of participants. Once confirmed, the app’s seamless integration allows it to feed the results and the report directly back into the ERP and document management system (DMS). By implementing this solution, KADI has streamlined the preparation and follow-up for tasting sessions and ensures that results are available in real-time across the relevant systems, providing an optimal basis for decision-making.

The next steps into the future:

The next projects are already in the starting blocks. And anyone who knows KADI knows that these processes, too, will be executed with the same perfection as a perfectly formed spring roll.

"Our biggest challenge is explaining to employees that almost anything is truly possible with engomo and that we can implement their ideas and requested changes in no time at all."
